Welcome to our Governors’ page

We have a responsibility for all key areas of school such as Safeguarding, Finance, Health and Safety, Human Resources, Pupil Progress and School Improvements.

Christopher Mitchell – Chair of Governors

“I have two grandchildren who attend the school. I have lived in the village of Edenthorpe for 40 years; with my own two daughters attending Canon Popham. Having initially worked in Engineering, I had a change of career and went in to Education, having taught at a Doncaster Secondary School for almost 25 years. Having just recently retired, I am able to give more time to what can be a demanding role, and one which I take very seriously. This is my way of giving something back to the community and I would like to make a difference. Primary education is the most important building block to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.”

David Milnes – Vice Chair of Governors

“I’m a serving police officer of 14 years with West Yorkshire Police, working in the safer roads and neighbourhoods team at Wakefield.  Prior to this I served in the Royal Navy Submarine Service for 15 years in the catering branch.  I enjoy community work and was involved the erection of the Edenthorpe War Memorial and planning for Remembrance Sunday services. I have two daughters at Canon Popham; their school life is very important to me.  I wish for my daughters to succeed academically and learn to be responsible members of our community.  This is something I am committed to see for all the children that attend Canon Popham school.  As a parent, I firmly believe that we should work in partnership with the school for the benefit of every child who attends Canon Popham. As a governor, I work hard attending meetings, training, Local authority governor forums, Lesson visits, aspects of school safeguarding, supporting the PTA and the running the parent voice Facebook page. My high point was the recent Ofsted inspection where we achieved a strong “good” from the inspectors.”
