Welcome to Reception!
10th July, 2020
We hope you are all well and have had a good week. In school we have really enjoyed our trip down memory lane, looking through our curriculum book and remembering all the fun we’ve had and the amazing learning we’ve done since September. It has been lovely to hear what your favourite memories of Reception were too and you should all be very proud of everything you have achieved this year. You are all Superstars and we are very proud of you!
Here are a few photos of some of the brilliant things you have done this week.
It has also been quite an emotional week for us, as today is the last day of our ‘Reception Bubble’. We are extremely proud of the children who have returned to school as they have all done fantastically well in adjusting to all the new rules and routines. They have really enjoyed seeing some of their friends again and we have loved being back in the classroom with them, even if it did look a bit different!
Today the children have had a little party to say goodbye to Mrs Bubb and gave her the ‘Thank you’ book we had made, along with some flowers. The children have loved having her as their teacher and we will all miss her very much. I am sure you would all like to join me in wishing her well at her new school and to thank her for all the support and care she has given to your children. Good luck Mrs Bubb, we will miss you very much!
We know it can be hard to limit screen time and ensure we are monitoring our children’s use off electronic apps. Here is a booklet you may find useful: Parental Controls booklet 2020
This Week’s Learning
This week we are doing things a little bit different and instead of doing Daily English and Maths activities we thought it would be nice to do some transition activities in preparation for going into Year 1. Please click on the following links to find out about the Transition Activities we’ve planned.

Previous Weeks Learning Project:
Whole School Themed Learning Projects
It was an impossible task to choose the winners of ‘The Reading Challenge’ so all of the children, who sent all their entries, will receive a prize when we return to school. Honestly, all of you did so well. The work you sent was awesome! We have made a little Powerpoint so you can see a few of the entries 😊
The main school prize has to go to Amari. Not only did you complete the tasks set but you have demonstrated a positive attitude to Reading which we are so proud of you for. Keep it up! Enjoy the book token! The other prize goes to Nihal for persevering. It is not always easy to keep doing your learning but you have done really well to complete all these Reading tasks- well done. Enjoy the book!
Active fusion who we use in school to support some of our physical development have put together some ideas of activities you can do at home. A link to these activities can be found in the Additional Home Learning Resources section of our website. Please scroll down to find details of where to find this page.
Collective Worship: Drawing Cartoons
The Director of Education for the Diocese of Sheffield has a produced a short video assembly for children to watch and join in with. The link to this assembly can also be found in the Additional Home LearningResources
In addition to the above reading and writing activities we would recommend watching the online Read Write Inc lessons by Ruth Miskin. These lessons can be viewed on You tube and will be shown at the following times and then will be available for 24 hours.
- Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am
- Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am
- Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am
Resources can also be found on ruthmiskin.com We have also updated the phonics page on our school website with more phonic activities.
We use a cursive style handwriting in our school, please try to encourage your child to use this when they are writing at home. A good resource for this is YouTube to see how we do this and also the RWI rhymes. Links to both of these resources can be found on the Handwriting section on our website
Thank you for engaging with our online Maths homework programme. It’s lovely to see all of your photographs and read all of your comments about the fun you’ve had playing the games which are suggested.
When you complete the video and activities you get to change your Mathscot.
CONGRATULATIONS to Oliver, Zack, Elsie, Scarlett, Bridie, Emily, Clara and Nihal who have all achieved ‘Easter Eggsperts’ on maths with Parents. You have completed all the tasks set this term- that is amazing!
Children may well be using the internet more than usual at the moment so it is a good time to remind and emphasise how to keep safe online. CEOP have produced lots of great resources which parents/carers can access on their website: www.thinkyouknow.co.uk
Additional Home Learning Resources
If this is not enough for you, there is also an Additional Home Learning Resources page – you won’t be able to do everything as this is for the whole school, but there are lots of fun activities.
