Welcome to Reception!

Reception Class Newsletter- Spring 1

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back! We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. This half term the children will be learning about transport and people who help us through our topic “How do we get there?”
We will also be finding out about winter and lots of other celebrations.
We will be holding our Parents Activity Session on Friday 15th February where you are invited to join us to take part in craft activities.

Baking money is now due for this half term. You may choose to pay £1.50 for the half term, or alternatively you may choose to pay £6 for the rest of the year. This should be paid on the Reception class door.

Thank you to everyone who handed in the phonics workout book, these will be sent back out shortly for the Spring Workouts to be completed by Wednesday 10th April. As a reminder, school reading books, reading records and key rings should be in school every day. Books will be changed every Tuesday and Friday.
Each time the children read their school reading book, they will move up the reading chart. Once 15 reads are logged they will be at the top of the chart and receive a golden ticket!
The children have been trying really hard to learn all the set 1 sounds on their key rings and we are pleased with the progress they have made.  We are now adding the set 2 sounds and in class we have been using these sounds to make simple words. It would help the children with their reading skills if you could support them with this at home.  You could try taking the sounds off the key ring and make simple words e.g. cat, book, tree etc and ask your child to say the sounds and then blend them together to read the word.

We would also like to thank those of you who have taken the time to contribute to your child’s learning journey by completing our star moments.  The children are enjoying sharing these moments with us and we are looking forward to hearing more about your children’s achievements out of school and what they have been doing at home.  This half term we have changed the colour of the stars and we have lots in school for you to take home.
Our email address is monitored each week so you can send in pictures of your child’s achievements or things they would like to share directly to FoundationStage@canonpopham.doncaster.sch.uk

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Simpkin, Mrs Bennett & Mrs Johnson
