Welcome to Reception! We are so excited to learn lots of new things this year and work together to support each child’s learning journey. If we can do anything to help or answer any queries, please contact us at foundationstage@cpa.dsat.education
Our theme this half term is ‘The Land Before Time.’ We will be building on children’s interests and developing learning through their ideas.
Here is our ‘Knowledge Organiser’- please complete this with your child return to school via Tapestry or the FS email.
Core Text:
Our story focus for this half term is ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped the Planet’.
Literacy & Phonics-
The children will beging their daily RWI lessons and start by playing lots of Fred Games before moving on to learning Set 1 sounds. In our Literacy sessions, we have 3 new words to learn all about the meanings of, this is usually linked to our story for the week. This is known to the children as RVI (robust vocabulary instruction). Please read with your child at home at least 3 times per week and practice recognising sounds on their sound key rings as well as using their library books to share stories.
Mathematics-
At Canon Popham, we follow maths mastery approach. We will start by learning about numbers within 10, calendar and time. All children in Reception have access to Numbots and we encourage you to use this game at home.
Understanding the World-
The Foundations of:
RE– This half term we are using the Discovery RE scheme to learn about celebrations of new year
History– We will be looking at the Palaeontologist Mary Anning
PSHE/RSE/PSED– We will be learning about our feelings and how to notice when our emotions change and how to be a good friend and take care of our toys at school.
Music- Charanga- Our World
Expressive Arts and Design-
This half term the children will be learning about food technology linked to our new year religious celebrations
Physical Development (PE)-
We will be using our outdoor area to develop our gross motor skills. The children love to practice their running, moving, climbing and throwing skills and have access to our outdoor area every day to practice these.
Tapestry-
We love see the things our children have been learning at home from your observations! A Tapestry challenge will be sent out each week on a Friday and you will have the rest of the week to complete this. If you need any support using your Tapestry account to get the most out of this wonderful platform, please ask a member of staff or use the tutorials below to help.
