Welcome to Reception!
Reception Class Newsletter- Autumn 1
Welcome to Reception! We hope you have had a lovely summer and that your children are looking forward to their first year in full time school. We have been really pleased with the way the children have settled over their first few days and they have had lots of fun exploring the toys and resources in our classroom.
Our topic for this half term is based on ourselves and is entitled “What do I need?” The children will be exploring the things we need to stay healthy and happy including friendship and how we can be a good friend. We will be holding a Parent’s Activity session on Thursday 25th October at 3.00pm during which you are invited to come into school and participate in some craft activities related to these topics with your child.
We will also be holding a meeting for Parents of children who are in Reception about how we teach reading and writing in the foundation stage. This meeting will take place in the main school hall on Tuesday 11th September at 5.30pm and will give you lots of information about the resources we use and some of the things you can do to help your child at home.
Here is a video explaining the phonics programme we use in our Nursery and Reception classes. It will explain how we teach children how to read and how phonics can help. If you have any questions about phonics, please come and see the class teacher.
Over the next few weeks we will also be learning songs and finding out about harvest in preparation for our Harvest festival on Friday 5th October. Parents and Carers are invited to attend our harvest festival which will take place in the Church. We will send out further details nearer the time.
In Reception we like to bake and so each half term the children will get the opportunity to follow various recipes usually linked to our topic. This half term the children will be baking people shaped biscuits and we do ask for a donation towards the cost of the ingredients. The cost is £1.50, due at the start of each half term or alternatively you could pay £9 for the year.
We would also like to remind you that children are not to bring toys into school and we would be grateful if you could make sure that they leave their things at home.
We would like to thank you for your cooperation and are looking forward to working with you this year. If you have any questions or queries please come and speak to any of the Reception Staff.
