PE at Canon Popham
The PE curriculum at Canon Popham offers a coherently planned sequence of lessons to help teachers ensure they have progressively covered the requirements of the PE National Curriculum. The scheme of work ensures that children have a varied and well mapped out PE curriculum. It provides the opportunity for progression across the full breadth of the PE National Curriculum for EYFS KS1 and KS2 for both indoor and outdoor PE. This progression is clearly identified on the skills and knowledge progression map and each lesson has been carefully planned to match these. In KS1, the focus of the PE curriculum is on the development of the fundamental skills that will be built upon in KS2 when they are applied in specific sports. It is our intention to develop a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and PE in all young people. We aim to help ensure a positive and healthy physical and mental outlook in the future and help young people to develop essential skills like leadership and teamwork. Within each lesson, we try to give every child the opportunity to develop skills in PE, consider the impact on their health and fitness, compete/perform and evaluate. All lessons are carefully differentiated which helps to ensure that learning is as inclusive as possible.
Well done to our Canon Popham Tag Rugby players on their fantastic achievement in the Hill House Tag Rugby tournament. After some fantastic play against really strong opposition Canon Popham eventually finished 3rd in their group which qualified them for the Thornensian Shield Competition (a trophy we had previously won in 2019). After a nail-biting semi-final against Town Fields the Canon-Popham team fought out a very tough final against Hayfield Lane. With a minute to go, a fabulous move from the team led to a last second try. What a great triumph for the team! Let’s hope next time we can bring back the cup. Congratulations to Armthorpe Tranmoor overall cup winners and many thanks to Sam and the Fit4rugby team as well as Hill House for putting on the event.
Tag Rugby Competition against Edenthorpe Hall
Doncaster Knights v. Leinster A
It was a narrow defeat, but we are very proud of the team for playing to a very high standard, and for the exemplary behaviour shown at such a public event.
