Welcome to Nursery!

Autumn 2 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back to the start of a new and busy half term. We hope the children have had an enjoyable and safe holiday.

This half term our topic is called ‘What goes Bang?’ and we will be finding out about different celebrations including Bonfire Night and Divali. We will also be exploring the sounds musical instruments make and how we can change these sounds.

We are also going to be preparing for Christmas and have a number of Christmas activities planned. These include:

Tuesday 11th December – Nursery and Reception Nativity
Friday 14th December – Reception Christmas Party

We will send out further details of these events later in the half term.

On Friday 9th November we will be having our first reading session, where you are invited into nursery to share books with your child and choose a book to take home. The session starts 11.10am for morning nursery and 2.45pm for afternoon nursery. These sessions will be held every Friday and we hope you are able to attend.

The children have enjoyed baking last half term and this will be continuing. We do ask for a donation of £1.50 for the half term to cover the cost of the ingredients and would like to thank those of you who have already paid for this half term.

We would also like to thank those of you who have taken the time to contribute to your child’s learning journey either via our email or completing one of the golden stars. The children are enjoying sharing these moments with us and we are looking forward to hearing more about your children’s achievements out of school. At the end of the half term we will be having a prize draw for Parents who have sent in stars. The more stars you send in the more chance you will have of winning either a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine.

At the start of every session we like to set out the resources and equipment for the children to use, including those resources outside.  We would therefore greatly appreciate it if you could prevent your child from playing with this equipment whilst waiting outside to come in.

Nursery children have the opportunity to play outside everyday and it is therefore important that they bring appropriate clothing, including a coat, hat, scarf and gloves as necessary.

Please help us by ensuring that your child is dressed in simple clothes that they can manage quickly and easily when they need to go to the toilet.  Remember, sometimes busy children leave things to the last minute.  If you wanted to bring a spare set of clothes in a bag, which can be hung on their peg, in case of accidents this would be welcomed.  Please make sure all items of clothing, especially school jumpers and cardigans, have got your child’s name in them.

If you have any questions or concerns please come and speak to a member of the Nursery staff and we would like to reassure you that we will take great care of your children.  Their safety and welfare is at the centre of all the decisions we make and we are very much looking forward to working with you all this year.

Here is a video explaining the phonics programme we use in our Nursery and Reception classes. It will explain how we teach children how to read and how phonics can help. If you have any questions about phonics, please come and see the class teacher.
