Welcome Back

Welcome back to everyone for the start of our new school year. A particularly warm welcome goes to all the children and families who are new starters at Canon Popham. We hope you will enjoy being part of our school family.

The children have settled back into the school routine very quickly.  Reception children have been  amazing and done really well , staying at school for the whole day and getting used to our school routines. It is great to see how eager all the children are to engage in their learning  and they have already shown us a really positive attitude to meeting the challenges of their new year group.

Please can you ensure that children bring their reading book and reading record book to school daily as we regularly check these. In addition, items such as water bottles help us to encourage the children to stay hydrated throughout the school day, so please ensure that your child has these every day.

As the weather becomes more autumnal, can we please request that children bring a coat to school so that they are equipped for playtimes and lunchtimes if the weather is cooler.

Swimming in Year 5

Our year 5 children have started their swimming lessons this week. They will be having an extended session in the pool every week for the whole of the autumn term at Go Swim, a new venue and provider for our school. We have chosen this provider because they are able to provide more coaches at poolside but also support ’buddies’ in the water with the children. This enables more children to have direct    support, not just from poolside but working in the water with them. The first session went very well and the children enjoyed it. We hope that they find this a fun and positive learning experience.

Coming Soon

Over this half term all classes in school are going to be looking at children’s literature linked to  World War 1. The children will be finding out about this period of history in the lead up to the national     commemoration of 100 years since the first armistice on November 11th. We are planning to mark this event by creating an art installation , which all the children will be contributing to. We will also be inviting carers and parents to be part of this. Look out for further details coming soon.

Finally, we hope that this year is a really positive one for everyone at our school. However, we understand that sometimes there may be issues, concerns or queries that arise as the year goes on. If you have anything that is causing concern, please feel welcome to speak to the staff in your child’s class or to  Mrs Navas. We are here to help your child make the most of their time at our school and will do whatever we can to help.

From time to time there may be issues or changes in circumstances at home which might impact on your child. If this is the case, please speak to us in confidence so that we are aware of any difficulties and can do our best to support your child .
