Water, water everywhere!

Our visit to TESCO

Welcome back to Year 2!

World Book Day

We hope you have had an enjoyable Easter break and that the children are refreshed for the summer term. Our theme this half term is 'Water, water everywhere!'

Which is the longest river in the world?

Why is water important to us?

What is the freezing point of water?

General information

P.E. kits are needed on Monday and Wednesday - black or navy shorts, white tee shirt and trainers. On these days can you please ensure that long hair is tied back and that earrings are not worn. It would also be helpful to label your child's PE kit with their name.

Reading books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Please make a record of every time your child reads because if they read 15 times within a month, they will receive a golden ticket. Key Stage 1 parents who support their child to read 15 times a month will be entered into a monthly prize draw.

Oxford Owl Library (The library is a fantastic e-book resource, you just need to register

We are continuing with our school 'Times Tables Challenge' award system to encourage the children to learn their times tables. The children need to learn their tables (multiplication and division facts and missing digit questions) to achieve awards.

Try it!!! Can you do it? You can practise as many times as you like by following the links

This half term we will be consolidating our reading and writing techniques in preparation for our Key Stage 1 SATs. We will read and watch a selection of adventure stories and create our own exciting stories.

Take a look at the BBC Bitesize Literacy for KS1 website for some fun things to do.

Hand Writing

This half term we will consolidate our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division knowledge and use this to answer reasoning problems in preparation for our Key Stage 1 SATs.

We will also be revisiting time as well as learning about capacity, where we will estimate and measure quantities of a liquid accurately and read different scales.

If you have any questions about any area of maths, please do not hesitate to ask.

Year 1 and Year 2 children will be working closely together and our topic for this term is Water, water everywhere!. This topic has been chosen to provide the children with opportunities to develop a wide range of geography, history, art and science skills, which will include finding out the life of Grace Darling, learning about the different jobs on our waterways and what life was like living on a houseboat in the past. Children will also be looking at water themed art by David Hockney and Claude Monet and create their own masterpieces to display in our Key Stage 1 art exhibition.
Have a try at these games

Topic Homework

We are continuing with our approach to homework as we did last half term; in addition to their reading book, spelling and maths homework, children can also choose to complete homework projects based upon our topic. The projects are designed to cover a range of areas to suit every child. Remember that you can work with your child on homework and it's a fun activity to do with your child. Your child will receive their homework sheet on the first week back this half term.

We hope you enjoy completing some of these homework projects with your children.
